Overview

Plan4Better, in collaboration with a partner, is currently working on the municipal heating plan for the City of Mainburg (approximately 15,000 residents). The most significant steps in the process have already been completed. The goal is to develop a comprehensive heating plan that enables a greenhouse gas-neutral heat supply by 2045.

As part of the project, a detailed status analysis was conducted, integrating heat density maps, energy carrier shares, building types, renovation statuses, and GIS data on gas and district heating networks. A digital twin served as the central data foundation, enabling precise analysis and the development of forward-looking scenarios.

The potential analysis explored opportunities for energy savings, the use of renewable energy and waste heat, as well as the suitability of areas for district heating networks or individual heating solutions. Based on this analysis, a target scenario for 2045 was developed, outlining clear measures for reducing greenhouse gas emissions, improving resource efficiency, and integrating renewable energy sources.

A catalog of measures provided prioritized action options with profiles detailing costs, funding opportunities, and climate protection potential. This was complemented by close stakeholder and public engagement, including citizen events and workshops. An interactive WebGIS, functioning as a live representation of the digital twin, made the results transparent and accessible for stakeholders and residents.

Through its structured approach and use of innovative technologies, Plan4Better successfully implemented practical and sustainable heating planning for Mainburg, serving as a model for other municipalities.
